Holden Fund Committee and Strategic Planning

Determining actions to achieve the goals.

Every chapter, state, region, committee, and group in our Society is working towards the vision we have defined, and the goals and strategies each one will achieve to walk together in the direction the Strategic plan has set for us.

The Holden Fund Committee manages the work supported by the Eunah Temple Holden Leadership Fund and has been strategically working to broaden the reach of that work in a variety of ways.

The Holden Fund Committee progress has been to work on our Strategic Plan goals, expanding offerings at international events. 

We extended full or partial funding for a speaker:

• At the International Convention
• At the International Conferences 
• The Latin American Conference held every biennium, was added in 2021 to the international scope of the committee.

The Strategic Plan directed the committee to create diverse ways to conduct leadership training. 

The Holden Fund Committee gave full or partial financial sponsorship for:

• 2021 International Leaders Orientation Meeting held online.
• In 2022, Transition meetings for international president nominee, as well as,
• Leadership training provided by Golden Gift Fund Committee. 

Finally, moving towards empowering members to take leadership roles, we gave full or partial funding for:

• Parliamentary Procedure Training at the International Conference in Portland and
• DKG Next Think Tank meeting. 

The Holden Fund Committee is dedicated to furthering the goals of the Society and we look forward to continuing to serve our members in the future.

What on Earth is World Fellowship?

Did you know that the World Fellowship Committee began in 1946? Yes, four German women were the first to receive funds to further their studies and visited Sweden for eight weeks in 1948! Next, in 1952 a DKG- UNESCO alliance was formed and provided special help for Korean women. Next, between 1958 and 1960, an agreement was made with the Institute of International Education (IIE) to provide dossiers from which a Society committee could select recipients for study in the US. Then a program was set up to involve approved Canadian universities. Finally, in 1972 the World Fellowship Committee became a standing committee. 

Since 1960 to date DKG has awarded $3,729,250 to 1029 women in 122 countries. Contributions have been $4,158,947.75, through June 20, 2021. You can be sure your donation to World Fellowship will be put to good use! Not only the women who receive these awards will benefit but also those whose lives are touched by them in their homeland.

Members Have Resources for Timely Information at No Cost 

Chapter presidents lead the backbone of our Society, the chapters. They excel when they are knowledgeable, appreciated, and connected.

The Presidents’ Page, The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Newsletter for Chapter Presidents, is that link that connects the chapter president to the Administrative Board and the Society Headquarters. The objective of the publication is to provide up-to-date information and helpful hints for chapter presidents. Each issue is emailed from Society Headquarters in February, April, June, August, October, and December directly to the chapter presidents and is posted on the DKG website. Regular features of the Presidents’ Page include a column prepared by Society Headquarters Staff, a President-to-President column written by the international president, a listing of Things to Remember, and contacts at Society Headquarters. Tips for membership, programs, projects, and future events are also included. Chapter presidents are encouraged to share this information with chapter members.

Members of the international communications and marketing committee publish Get Connected, a one-page newsletter that offers information about Society communication tools, using electronic platforms, and suggestions for marketing the Society. It is published six times a year and made available on the DKG website.

Communications and Marketing: The New Normal

Join the International Communications and Marketing Committee as we explore post pandemic communications and marketing approaches. The New Orleans session will be an interactive “roundtable” workshop, a speed dating experience for C&M agents. Presenters and participants will work to embrace “the new normal.” Topics will include: How to Meet and Greet our DKG Sisters - exploring our cultural differences; Marketing Strategies Chart - Awareness, utilization, and outcomes!; How and Where Should We Meet? - the many options available in today’s ‘new normal’; Emotional Branding - Using the DKG Brand; and more. Hawaii (50th US State, 14 DKG chapters) is an archipelago located in the tropics. Hawaii, the state, includes eight main islands, one of which is often called the ‘Big Island.’ Natives of the Hawaiian Islands, previously ruled by kings and queens, use the term ‘aloha’ for hello and goodbye. Literally translated, aloha is ‘breath of life.’

International World Fellowship

Hello, my name is Bjørg Nakling from Norway, Europe. I am a member of the the International World Fellowship Committee as the representative of the European region. I feel that the work that is done in this committee represents the heart of DKG. We put into action what DKG is all about! It is important that members in Europe engage themselves in the different committees!

We represent few members but we represent so many cultures! We make a difference!

As one of our responsibilities, this committee reviews approximately 60 applicants for a World Fellowship award to non-members outside USA and Canada. Many women from Europe have been granted an award. The first ones came from Germany in 1946!

Where does the money for these awards come from? Not from our dues! Chapters and state organizations raise them. Individuals also donate money and gift money in their wills. From 2021 through 2022 $83,500.00 were awarded to deserving women. For some reason, chapters in Europe do not raise a cent. Maybe it is time to do something about that! We do make a difference in our own lives when we know we are giving an outstanding woman educators the possibility to receive a Master or a Doctorate degree. Talk to your chapter, call me if you need me to come and tell about the work that the committee does. Invite someone who has received an award who may be from your country. I can help you find one.
