Bang # 10 International Speakers Fund

Would you like to travel and speak to diverse groups of people? Do you have compelling information to share with others? Are you interested in meeting and sharing different cultures with members from another country? If so, DKG has the program for you; the International Speakers Fund (ISF)!

State or country organizations can host an ISF Speaker at a convention or workshop. Expenses for travel to the meeting site are paid for through ISF, the state organization hosts the speaker while at the location. Applications are available to download on the website from July 1 – September 15. After completing, your state organization president will submit it electronically to Society Headquarters by September 15. Applications are kept active for two years. Members can also donate to this worthy cause.

If chosen, you would serve as an ambassador on behalf of the Society, providing you the opportunity to speak about your ideas, research, and experiences. Lasting friendships and links to other cultural experiences would be formed. So, decide on the topic(s) that you would like to speak on and submit your application!

Think about the engaging experience this would provide for members. As educators, we are always interested in other education systems, practices, needs, and views. This lasting friendship goes both ways. The speaker, the audience, and the donator are all part of “Uniting women educators of the world”.

We’re Back!

Have you been searching on the DKG Blogs for ISF news? We have been developing a new application form for candidates applying to be an ISF speaker which allows them to offer a virtual presentation. If you are thinking of applying, the application form will be available on the Society website from July 1-September 15 under “Forms.”

Are you a State Organization President? Are you looking for ways to connect your members to some of the other countries that make up our international organization? We have 29 members from a variety of countries who are willing to speak on a wide range of topics along with informing your members about the different cultures and customs of their home country. November 1 and May 1 are the two deadline dates for requesting an ISF speaker. You might want to consider having the speaker at a time other than your spring conference and convention – especially if the ISF speaker is offering a virtual presentation.

Is there someone in your state organization that you think should be on the ISF Speakers list? Sometimes a little encouragement is all it takes for the rest of the DKG community to know about this amazing educator. Let the ISF Committee members know about your recommendation and we would be happy to contact them with further details.

Our blog post will be bringing you updates regularly on what your ISF Committee members are planning.

Join the Non-dues Revenue Committee at the International Conferences!

The Non-dues Revenue Committee has been preparing an informational workshop for members at the international conferences in Portland, Oregon, and San Antonio, Texas, this summer. We hope you will be able to attend, whether in person or virtually.

Non-dues revenue is exactly that… money that is generated through sources other than dues to serve members and benefit the Society. Workshop presenters will provide information about different insurance resources, business discounts, and fun educational tours that are available to members.

Attendees will learn by sharing what is happening in chapters, state organizations, and at international levels of the Society to help with fundraising. We hope you will be able to attend to learn about non-dues revenue.

Do You Know Any Teachers?

In talking to retired DKG members they are often quoted in saying, “I do not know any teachers.” I would like for you to consider the possibilities. Do you have a grandchild? If so, get to know that teacher by volunteering in her classroom or in that school. Ask the principal about your grandchild’s teacher and other teachers they consider to be exemplary.

Talk to the superintendent of the schools and request a list of teachers of the year, Nationally Board Certified teachers and other award-winning educators. These educators are making a difference in the lives of students and would be excellent DKG members.

Do you live near a community college or university? What a wonderful place to get to know the educators and to ask them to join our Society! Did you know you could invite a college student studying education to be a collegiate member of DKG? I imagine in your community you know someone who is going into the field of education.

Remember someone believed in you and over time you have become a stronger professional educator because of the DKG members who have mentored you and encouraged you to be the best you can be! There are endless possibilities of educators to invite for membership! Just look in your own neighborhood! Share the DKG story!
